Effect of Opuntia elatior on Alteration in Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase activity induced by Gamma Radiation in Swiss Albino Mice

When mice are exposed to gamma radiation, all the body systems affected adversely. Liver enzymes which responsible for removal of toxicity created by irradiation increases in body. Several herbs known reduce this toxicity. Opuntia elatior (OE) ,a cactus, was tested study its activity remove toxins induced whole exposure Co60 rays (6Gy).A moderate dose OE (10 mg/kg weight) given orally mice, before and GOT studied their kidney at 1,3,5,10,15 30 post treatment days . Whole ray kidneys also. In pretreated animals increase significantly lesser early recovery observed. Two types extracts were used (ethanolic acetonic). Both able radiation almost equally. As cladode quite cheap produce no side effects(OE cladodes as food), it may be prevent unwanted toxic effects exposure.
